The Corvette ZR1 Keeps Shattering Lap Records: Video
Record times continue tumbling for Chevrolet’s mighty Corvette ZR1. Earlier in 2025, Chevy pushed its supercar to the limit on five iconic circuits. Now, the ZR1 adds another blistering time to its rapidly growing list of achievements.
A 2026 Corvette ZR1, piloted by Canadian legend Ron Fellows, smashed the Mosport production-car lap record with an impressive 1:18.2. This shatters the previous benchmark of 1:22.12, set by a 2023 Z06—also driven by Fellows.
Fellows is no stranger to Canadian Tire Motorsports Park or to Corvettes. As a circuit co-owner and a longtime Corvette racer, he’s clearly the ideal choice for this assignment.
With a driver who has conquered Le Mans and Daytona at the helm of a car delivering 1,064 horsepower, remarkable performance is almost assured. The car’s aggressive aero, especially with the extreme ZTK package, also boosts its capabilities on the track.
“More downforce means you can be that much more aggressive with entry into corners,” Fellows notes. “In Turn 8, for example, I braking at essentially the same point as I did in the Z06, but I was going over 20 mph faster.”
Under the skin, the ZR1 packs a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8 positioned toward the rear. Chevy cites a 0-60 mph sprint of 2.3 seconds. The optional downforce package can deliver up to 1,200 pounds of downward grip.
This Mosport record adds to a string of fast laps at Watkins Glen, Road America, Road Atlanta, and two configurations at Virginia International Raceway (source: Motor1). The larger ZR1X variant has also logged a record lap at the famed Nürburgring in Germany.
Notably, the car used for the Mosport run appears to be part of Chevrolet’s new Stars & Steel collection, highlighting the brand’s heritage—and hinting at the limited-run ZR1 edition for 2026, whether as an homage or a marketing push.
In any case, it’s an extraordinary performance on a legendary circuit. Ron Fellows proves once again why he’s known as the Magician of Mosport, and the ZR1 stands as a premier North American supercar.
