A family's determination to enter the property market, despite soaring costs, has led them to purchase one of the smallest vacant blocks of land ever sold in Queensland. Catherine Leon and her husband Nick, along with their 22-month-old daughter Astrid, bought an 89sq m block in Southport for $550,000 after six years of searching. The couple, who had been renting an apartment in the same area for nine years, were determined to secure a home for their daughter and stay in the neighborhood due to its excellent schools and future university prospects.
Catherine explained that the timing was not right in 2020 due to job uncertainties during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as prices continued to rise, they became increasingly concerned about the escalating costs of both existing houses and vacant land. Despite the challenges, they were relieved to finally have something to work with.
The family plans to build a terrace house on the small block, drawing inspiration from the architect who designed several nearby terrace houses. Catherine expressed their relief at entering the market, emphasizing the importance of securing a home for their daughter and their desire to stay in the area.
